but i don't know how...

I'll be posting about my trip sometime later. My head's not in it right now, and I'm figuring things out with my life... trying to pick up some pieces and see where they go.

hebei > beijing > gansu > henan

Stopped through Beijing for just a day and a half to rejuvenate ourselves after three full days of hard manual labor (painting, digging, brick-moving, and weeding) -- proud of the kids! Hopping on an overnight train this evening to head to Tianshui, a small city in Gansu Province. After several days there -- teaching and doing more labor work -- we make our way to Henan Province to visit the Shaolin Temple and Shaolin orphanage for three days. Will end up back in Beijing the late evening of the 29th. Pictures to come!

nostalgia

firstly // cannot believe I'm missing Jack's summer tour this year. Camping out with friends at the Gorge at George (yes, people -- George, WA) was one of the best highlights of the summer during his last tour (2005, I believe?). I will be listening to Jack all day on August 22nd to make up for not seeing him live... damn it.

secondly
// I always, always miss surfing when summer rolls around, no matter where I am. Granted, I'm still a novice (by far), but there is n o t h i n g in this world like the rush you get when you catch a solid wave -- even if it's taken you several tries and it only lasts for 12 seconds. And, for obvious reasons, listening to Jack brings my thoughts back to surfing and "surf mode."

Here's to you, Jack Johnson.
